Fruit that does not touch the ground arrives clean at the mill or collection point. Lower acidity in the oil, better commercial classification, higher price per kilo.
Faster harvesting

Olive
Primary application. The net is spread beneath the olive tree before beating or shaking. Clean fruit produces oil with lower acidity and higher commercial value. Essential for table olive and extra virgin olive oil production.
Almond
Almond collection after mechanical tree shaking. The net protects the shell from ground impact and facilitates rapid collection.
Walnut
Walnut capture without ground contact on wet soil, reducing the risk of fungal contamination and facilitating subsequent drying.
Pistachio
Clean pistachio collection after shaking. The net prevents ground contact that can stain the shell and reduce the product's visual value.
Carob
Carob is collected by beating or shaking the tree. Harvest nets are common during campaigns in the main production areas of the Mediterranean.

Fruit that touches the ground loses quality and price
During the olive harvest, fruit that contacts the ground directly becomes contaminated with mud, stones and plant debris. This contamination transfers to the mill, where it increases the oil's acidity and reduces its classification. The result: lower-grade oil at a lower price.
Manual harvesting without a net is slow and laborious. Every additional hour of fieldwork reduces the season's margin. With the growing difficulty of finding seasonal workers, harvesting efficiency is decisive.
In rainy or damp conditions, muddy ground multiplies fruit contamination and makes collection more difficult. Early olive varieties are frequently harvested during rainy autumn weather.

What size net do I need?
It depends on the terrain and the harvesting method. Dry, level ground: Traditional. Rain or clay conditions: Anti-Mud Braided. Tractor dragging: Premium Drag with reinforced stitching. Textil Villa de Pego makes all three variants.
What is the difference between the Traditional and Anti-Mud nets?
For traditional olive groves with large trees: 8-10 m nets. For intensive olive groves with smaller trees: 5-6 m. Made to measure according to the planting pattern of your plot.
Can the Premium Drag net be dragged by tractor?
The net with a centre opening (a cut for the trunk) is standard for beating and individual shaking. The net without an opening is used in continuous mechanised harvesting, where the net is dragged between trees.
How many seasons does a harvest net last?
With proper care (dry storage, cleaning after use), a Textil Villa de Pego HDPE harvest net is reusable over many seasons. UV stabilisation protects against solar degradation.
Are they custom-made?
Yes. Although olives are the main application, harvest nets also work for almonds, walnuts, pistachios, industrial cherries and any fruit collected as it falls from the tree after shaking or beating.
Do harvest nets work for fruit other than olives?
The HDPE monofilament harvest net has a smooth surface, ideal for letting the fruit slide. At TVP we weave with the leno technique, not on a Raschel loom, even though both terms circulate in the market. The braided version (Anti-Mud) prevents mud building up.
