Silonet: heavy-duty net with Silobag anchoring
The Silonet net is a high-strength HDPE monofilament protection mesh designed to cover and secure the polyethylene sheets over silos, bunkers and silage piles. Made with HDPE monofilament yarn, it offers exceptional slip resistance that holds the cover firmly in place even in strong winds. The net protects the sheet against damage from hail, bird pecking and rodents.
It is anchored with Textil Villa de Pego Silobags (polypropylene ballast bags filled with gravel or sand) instead of used tyres. The Silonet + Silobags system is safer, more hygienic and complies with environmental regulations. UV-stabilised for continuous outdoor use, reusable over multiple seasons. A windbreak effect prevents the sheet from flapping and reduces air ingress into the silo.

Advantages of Textil Villa de Pego Silonet
Protection against wind and storms
High tensile-strength net with a windbreak effect. It holds the silo sheet firmly in place even in strong winds, preventing the flapping that lets air in and spoils the silage. The slip resistance of the HDPE monofilament stops the net from shifting.
Barrier against birds and rodents
Prevents birds, rodents and wild animals from reaching the silage and stored grain. It avoids contamination from droppings and the damage from pecking and biting that perforate the silo film.
Anti-hail protection for the sheet
The Silonet net absorbs the impact of hail before it reaches the polyethylene sheet. It prevents punctures that let water in and cause grain oxidation and unwanted fermentation in the silage.
Silobag anchoring
It is anchored with Textil Villa de Pego Silobags laid in transverse lines across the silo, doing away with used tyres as ballast. Safer for operators, more hygienic for the silage and compliant with environmental waste-management legislation.

UV-stabilised for maximum outdoor durability. Reusable over multiple seasons when stored correctly, folded under cover. It should be replaced when it shows holes, tears or other visible damage. Contact our technical team for the estimated service life in your area.
Quick installation — the most economical method
Quick and easy installation thanks to the integrated longitudinal grips that make positioning and fixing the Silobags easier. According to comparative cost studies, the protection net is the most economical method for securing the silo cover. Saves time and labour compared with other systems.

Silonet applications
Cereals
Covering for wheat, barley, maize and other cereal silos.
Silage
Covering of bunkers for silage of maize, grass and fermented forage. The net keeps the sheet sealed, preventing oxygen ingress that causes butyric fermentation and the growth of Clostridium.
Fodder
Covering for bales and stacks of hay and alfalfa stored outdoors.
Hay
Bales stored outdoors deteriorate with rain. Silonet keeps the surface layer dry.
Grain maize
Protection of high-moisture maize grain silos against damp, birds and rodents. Keeps the grain in good condition during prolonged storage.
Pulses
Chickpeas, lentils and peas stored in bulk.
Silo covers that blow away and exposed grain
The polyethylene sheets covering silos and bunkers shift and blow away in the wind, leaving the grain and silage exposed to rain, air and contamination. Water and oxygen ingress causes incorrect fermentation, mould growth, mycotoxins and irreversible losses of nutritional quality. Hail punctures the sheet, birds peck at it, and rodents and wild animals cause further damage.
The traditional method of holding sheets down with used tyres is ineffective, unsafe and polluting. The tyres shift in the wind, contain toxic substances that can contaminate the silage, and handling them poses a risk to workers. They also breach waste-management regulations in many regions.
A poorly protected silo can lose up to 15% of its nutritional value. The investment in a Silonet protection net pays for itself with the first protected harvest.
Frequently asked questions about the Silonet silo protection net
How is the Silonet net installed over a silo or silage bunker?
Installation follows a five-layer sequence: first the side-wall film, then the underlay film over the silage, then the main silo film, next the Silonet net over the whole assembly, and finally the Silobags (ballast bags) laid in transverse lines across the net. The Silobags are filled with gravel or sand and replace used tyres as the anchoring system.
How many seasons does the Silonet net last and what maintenance does it need?
With UV stabilisation and correct storage (folded under cover, protected from direct sun), the Silonet net is reusable over multiple seasons. Inspect it before each use and replace it if it shows holes, tears or visible damage. Avoid dragging the net over abrasive surfaces during installation.
Are Silobags sold separately or included with the Silonet net?
Silobags are a complementary product bought separately. Textil Villa de Pego manufactures both products and can supply them in a single quote. Silobags are high-strength polypropylene bags, reusable over multiple seasons.
Why replace used tyres with Silobags on the silage clamp?
Used tyres contain toxic substances (zinc, cadmium, PAHs) that can contaminate the silage, pose an accident risk because of their weight and handling, and storing them breaches waste management regulations in many regions. Silobags are lighter, more hygienic, safer and compliant with environmental legislation.
Does the Silonet net also protect against hail and animals?
Yes. The Silonet net provides multiple protection: against wind (a windbreak effect that stops the sheeting flapping), against hail (it absorbs the impact before it punctures the plastic), against birds (it prevents pecking) and against rodents and wild animals. A complete solution for every external threat to the clamp.
What is the difference between a silo protection net and windbreak netting?
The Silonet net is designed specifically to cover horizontal silos and bunkers, with slip resistance to stay in place on the sloping plastic sheet. It is anchored with Silobags, not posts. Windbreak netting is installed vertically around the perimeter of a plot. They are different products for different applications.
